Sura Al Hatoum
“A big part of my joining Blumont Annuity is our focus on annuities. It’s what we do, and it’s what we do well. It’s what allows us to think outside the box a little bit more and better tailor our services to the changing needs of clients and annuitants.”

Sura Al Hatoum

Head of Operations

As Head of Operations, Sura Al Hatoum performs a vitally important function for BAC and our clients: ensuring that annuitants are paid accurately and on time. With both actuarial and operational expertise, she is well suited to this responsibility.

Sura began her career as an actuary at an international consultancy, specializing in insurance and pension issues. Before joining Blumont Annuity, she was Director of Actuarial & Operational Services for one of Ontario’s major pension plans. Over the course of her working life, she has led initiatives that enhanced operational efficiency and compliance, overseen the operational teams responsible for complex member benefits, ensured the quality of pension administration systems, and managed online tools to support seamless onboarding and a positive member experience.

In short, Sura knows pensions and pension administration.

At Blumont Annuity, Sura leads a team dedicated to operational efficiency and client satisfaction. She manages relationships with third-party administrators, resolves annuitant concerns and ensures seamless delivery of annuity payments. She and her team also play a vital role in supporting our sales efforts, providing feedback, guidance and hands-on direction to ensure that Blumont Annuity’s operational processes align with commitments made to our clients.

Blumont Annuity Company is unique in that, by design, we can take on some of the more complex annuities in the market. Our role within operations is to work collaboratively with our business development team so they can go out and confidently take those complicated annuities on, knowing that they will be administered effectively.

Member experience is a core priority across Blumont Annuity. Sura’s role includes making certain that every aspect of that experience is delivered in a way that emphasizes clarity, ease of understanding and trust. Her close connection to pension administration will also provide insight into looking ahead and planning for the evolving service expectations of clients and annuitants.

Sura is a Fellow of both the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and the Society of Actuaries. She is actively contributing to the actuarial profession through her involvement with the Society of Actuaries Exam Committee, writing and grading FSA-level exams. She is also passionate about mentoring aspiring actuaries, especially women entering the field.
